We are continuously striving to facilitate our engineers with the tools to make design easy, and with this in mind we are pleased to announce the launch of our multifaceted online community, www.ftdicommunity.com.

Created with the intention of strengthening our existing array of technical support capabilities, this valuable new engineering resource aims to encourage ongoing interaction between members, which will in turn provide a valuable knowledge base via which the sharing of ideas and project information can be facilitated. Through such activities, it will become possible to expedite system developments using our broad portfolio of industry-leading USB related products.

Bridgetek launches two new development modules

Bridgetek is pleased to announce the launch of two development modules – the CleO35-WIFI and MM930LITE, designed to work with the CleO35 and FT93x series respectively. The CleO35-WIFI is an accessory for the CleO series – the smart TFT display for Arduino, and is designed with an ESP-12S Wi-Fi module from Ai-thinker using core processor ESP8266 which is among the most integrated Wi-Fi chips in the industry.

The MM930Lite is a development module for Bridgetek’s 32-bit high performance FT93x Microcontroller family, which is used to develop and demonstrate the functionality of the FT930 Embedded Microcontroller, and is ideal for applications including home security systems, home automation systems, USB capability products, embedded multimedia application and other industrial control systems.

FT602 UVC Class SuperSpeed USB3.1 IC and development modules now available!

We are pleased to announce the full scale production of our FT602 USB 3.1 (Gen 1) video class FIFO IC and two accompanying hardware modules. The FT602 supports the streaming of video content from high definition camera equipment, meaning that imaging systems which would have previously only been capable of delivering relatively low resolution material can gain substantially elevated video quality but still run at 60fps frame rates. The UMFT602A and UMFT602X units enable bridging of a FIFO bus to a USB3.0/1 host and are equipped with either HSMC or FMC (LPC) connectors. They provide engineers with a simple and straight forward platform on which to evaluate the functionality of the 32-bit FT602 devices, which can deliver up to 1920 x 1080 resolution at frame rates of 60fps, with up to 4 video input channels being made available.

New Cables & Modules extend the FT-X series to facilitate more effective Bridging to USB

To reinforce our  position as the acknowledged industry leader in USB bridging technology, we have added to the breadth of supporting products within our X-Chip portfolio. The LC231X and LC234X modules provide a low cost USB to UART bridge using the FT231X and FT234X ICs respectively to transfer data at up to 3M Baud, and the TTL-234X series is a range of USB to serial converter cables which provide connectivity between USB and serial UART interfaces.

EVE Screen Designer (ESD) 3.X

To further increase the degree of support available for the FT81x Embedded Video Engine (EVE) graphic controllers, we have now released Version 3.0 of the popular EVE Screen Designer. The EVE Screen Designer (ESD) 3.X integrated development environment (IDE) further facilitates EVE-based human machine interface (HMI) construction. It presents a simple, highly intuitive package through which a wide range of exciting visual effects can be created and various items of graphical content edited, in order that enhanced user experiences are derived. Building on the previous generation, it has advanced code generation capabilities (with exported C-based source code being applicable to any hardware associated with Bridgetek’s FT90x MCUs), plus a greater scope of widgets that can be incorporated. As users rely predominantly on visual programming (though there is provision to use text for editing purposes), they do not need to have an in-depth understanding of EVE display lists.

CleO50 launched to extend range of smart TFT displays

We are pleased to announce the production launch of our CleO50 module, the 5" version in the series of smart TFT displays. In addition to the increased size, this module features a larger PCB which has allowed for the addition of 2x mikroBUS™ interfaces from MikroE, which provide access to a wider range of expansion cards (Click Boards) thus further extending the project potential with additional sensors and control boards beyond that already provided by Arduino shields. The device also benefits from an FT900 replacing the previous FT903, which allows further extension of interfaces available, and an FT812 replacing the previous FT810 to increase the level of colour support offered.

ME81x High-Resolution Graphics Controller Display Modules now available

The ME81x series featuring FT81x advanced graphics controller ICs has now been extended to include the ME812-WH50R and ME813-WH50C 5" display modules with resistive and capacitive touch respectively. These items of hardware are designed to assist engineering professionals as they strive to implement more sophisticated and functionality-rich human machine interfaces (HMIs) and ensure market differentiation.

FTDI Chip and newly formed Bridgetek are proud to make a number of exciting announcements at the co-branded booth, #261 in hall A6 at the Electronica 2016 show in Munich. From Bridgetek, the new high-resolution ME81x modules featuring the FT81x graphic controller ICs are now available to order in full production quantities. CleO now available in full production quantities! 

FTDI Chip are delighted to announce that following the release of our first batch of CleO kits to our Indiegogo backers, we are now making the product fully available to all customers. The CleO35 module and full accessory suite including camera, speaker, reverse I/O (RIO) adapter, power adapter and Micro-SD card are now on sale via our distribution channels and on our web shop

Our CleO product page equips customers with additional detail on the products available, provides product datasheets and features key information on the projects and tutorials made possible using CleO. In addition, our dedicated technical support site for the series, CleOstuff.com, provides a full software release package with instructions on how to work with CleO, a getting started video, and an interactive user forum. FT260 series further extended to include new IC and corresponding modules

In order to continue providing engineers with comprehensive support when implementing USB into their embedded systems, we are pleased to announce a new IC and two new modules to the FT260 series of HID class USB to UART / I2C Master devices. The UMFTPD3A programmer module is designed specifically for use with the company’s development hardware and ICs containing either internal one-time programmable (OTP) memory or eFUSE logic (which are both used to store USB vendor ID, product ID product description data, etc.), namely the FT260 and FT4222H offerings, while the UMFT260EV1A module is a compact, easy to utilise development module for the FT260 series which will present engineers with a valuable resource for adding connectivity to human machine interfaces and other computing peripherals. Additionally, the FT260S extends the series offering to include a 28-pin TSSOP packaged version of the IC that will make it more convenient for pick-and-place procedures.

CleO user guide, software support and technical forum now available!

FTDI Chip are pleased to announce the first release of a number of support and software materials for our newly announced CleO module, including a dedicated technical support site. At CleOstuff.com, you can access all of the resources you will need to get started with CleO.  This includes software packages and a help manual which features a full suite of tutorials, projects and examples. Additionally, this is where we encourage CleO users to communicate on our forum and share ideas, progress and technical queries on the series - do so by registering here. We will be making regular updates to the site on the series: adding information about product launch dates, additional product releases, and further software support material as it becomes available.

FTDI Introduces Compact Dual & Quad Channel Hi-Speed USB Interface ICs with Accompanying Hardware

To provide engineers with a greater breadth of IO options and also address de-mands to conserve board real estate, FTDI has announced new versions of its highly popular FT2232H and FT4232H devices. These configurable USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (supporting 480Mbit/s operation) ICs are now available in 56-pin VQFN packages, which complement the 64-pin LQFP package format. As a re-sult they are now easier to place and route on to PCBs, as well as being better suited to space-constrained electronic designs.

CleO, the smart TFT display for Arduino

CleO brings to market a family of intelligent, simple to program TFT display boards through which engineers can develop imaginative, compelling human machine interfaces, regardless of their experience level. Using Arduino as a foundation, CleO is able to leverage FTDI Chip’s high speed bridging and display technology so that improved performance and greater functionality can be benefitted from. In addition, a number of accessories including cameras, speakers and power adaptors will be made available when the product is fully available in May 2016.

New FT260 Full speed HID class USB to UART/I2C master bridge chip available now

FTDI Chip is pleased to announce the launch of its first dedicated USB HID class device, the FT260. Leveraging the advantages of using a standard USB HID class driver which will be already installed in most OS (our other devices are Vendor Class), this device provides an ideal, fast to implement bridge between USB and either UART or I2C peripherals. The small 28 pin QFN package provides the perfect bridge to your sensor or human interface peripheral application. New FT51A 8 bit MCU with integrated USB hub port available now

FTDI Chip is pleased to announce the launch of its FT51A series incorporating both ICs and corresponding development modules, now available in full production quantities. Based upon an industry standard 8051-compatible processor core the FT51A brings enhanced IO bridging to 8 bit MCU technology with integrated USB device and hub port capabilities ideal for cascading distributed computing tasks over USB. Other IO's include UART, SPI, I2C, ADC and PWM ideal for data acquisition and control applications supported with 16kBytes internal program flash and 8kbyte data RAM to store and run applications. Ultimate bridging solutions with the new FT90x 32-bit MCU series

FTDI Chip is pleased to announce the launch of it''s FT90x series incorporating both ICs and corresponding development modules, now available in full production quantities. Based upon the new FT32 high performance, 32 bit RISC core, the FT90x provides a wide variety of connectivity and configurable bridging options including 10/100 Ethernet (PHY on chip), High Speed USB, camera interface, CAN, I2S and more, making it the ideal choice for high speed, advanced technology bridging solutions. By executing instructions from shadow RAM the FT90x can operate at true Zero Wait States (0WS) up to 100MHz with 310 DMIPS performance. In addition to the range of ICs, a number of development modules are available: the MM900EVxA series which provide full hardware feature support for the FT90x processor in a variety of form factors, in addition to the UMFTPD2A debugger/programmer module providing a USB bridge between the FT90x Eclipse IDE development tools running on a PC and the FT90x 1-wire debug pin. Introducing the FT81x - EVE, the next generation!

FTDI Chip’s highly-regarded Embedded Video Engine (EVE) portfolio for advanced human machine interface (HMI) implementation has been further strengthened with the introduction of a new series of ICs and corresponding modules - the FT81x series. These new EVE devices support higher maximum screen resolutions than previously possible - increasing from the 512 x 512 pixels of the company’s FT80x series and offering up to 800 x 600 pixels, in order to address larger displays (7-inches and above) used in point-of-sales units, information kiosks, etc. Now fully available in production quantities, the FT810, FT811, FT812 and FT813 ICs provide increased pixel resolution for sharper imagery, increased speed for faster data transfer and image/video loading, and larger memory capacity. In addition, the VM81x series currently includes the VM810C, a credit card sized development module to assist developing and demonstrating the functionality of the FT810 IC. This module behaves as an SPI slave, requiring a SPI Master for proper micro-controller interfacing and system integration. Two variants are available: the VM810C50A-D which is equipped with a 5.0” 800x480 pixel TFT LCD display panel preinstalled and the VM810C50A-N which comes without the display. FTDI Chip releases full SuperSpeed USB3.0 Product Set

FTDI Chip is pleased to announce the full production release and availability of its FT60x series, a sophisticated USB3.0 to FIFO bridge in a choice of low pin count packages. In addition, four corresponding development modules are now available. The FT600 and FT601 are FTDI Chip's first generation USB3.0 products that function as SuperSpeed USB3.0 to FIFO bridges, providing data bursting rates of up to 3.2Gbps. Designed with simplicity in mind, the chips are simple to connect and control, with no firmware development required - just "fit and forget". The UMFT60xA and UMFT60xX range of evaluation/development modules with either HSMC/FMC(LPC) connectors have been designed to interface with the FT60x. The series allows for bridging a FIFO bus to a USB3.0 host and evaluating the functionality of the FT60x. As a daughter card, the UMFT60xx must work with a FIFO master board which has either a FMC or HSMC connector. There are 4 models which provide different FIFO bus interfaces and data bit widths, and they are designed to plug in to most FPGA development platforms supplied by vendors such as Altera (UMFT60xA) or Xilinx (UMFT60xX). FTDI Chip Launches Sophisticated USB 3.0 Interface Solution in Low Pin Count Package

The FT600Q and FT601Q are FTDI Chip’s first generation USB 3.0 products that function as SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to FIFO bridges, providing data bursting rates of up to 3.2Gbps. The FT600Q comes in 56-pin QFN package and has a 16-bit wide FIFO bus interface, while FT601Q comes in 76-pin QFN package and has a 32-bit wide FIFO bus interface. Both these chips support up to 8 endpoints, other than the management endpoints. The endpoints are linked to a configurable endpoint buffers of 16kByte length for IN and 16kByte for OUT. MikroElektronika & FTDI Chip Embark on Construction of Comprehensive FT90X Development Environment

Belgrade-headquartered development tool chain supplier MikroElektronika has signed a formal agreement with FTDI Chip to create mikroC, mikroBasic and mikroPascal compilers for the FT90X 32-bit microcontroller offering. The FT90X utilises a proprietary 32-bit RISC architecture - allowing it to set performance benchmarks beyond 2.93DMIPS/MHz, with true zero wait-states operation up to 100MHz frequencies, as well as capacious memory and an array of advanced connectivity resources. Intelligent Display System Provides Unmatched Ease of Integration

4D Systems has announced a partnership with FTDI Chip that has resulted in the development of a highly advanced intelligent SPI display offering, based on FTDI Chip’s FT800 Embedded Video Engine (EVE). The new 4DLCD-FT843 product enables system designers to rapidly create high quality human machine interfaces (HMIs). It includes a 4.3” TFT display (with 480 x 272 pixel resolution), PWM audio output (with amplifier enable), a 64 voice polyphonic sound synthesizer, a 4-wire resistive touch screen, all integrated on a flexible ribbon connector. The product was designed so that it can be easily incorporated into current systems via an SPI interface, where the FT800 acts like an SPI peripheral.

FTDI Chip has confirmed that its ground-breaking FT800 Embedded Video Engine (EVE) is a key component in an exciting new Kickstarter project - the Gameduino2 game adaptor shield from Excamera. In 2011, the Kickstarter-funded Gameduino made major industry impact by successfully bringing vintage gaming to the popular Arduino platform. Now, with the introduction of Gameduino 2, users will be able to transform their Arduino units into modern handheld gaming systems that feature touch control, 3-axis accelerometers, headphone audio outputs and microSD data storage for game assets. Development Modules for Intelligent Display Systems Introduced by FTDI Chip

FTDI Chip has announced the release of the VM800C – a family of credit card sized (85.6mm x 54.1mm) development module, and the VM800B – an elegantly encased version of this module in a fitted, plastic bezel. The portfolio is comprised of 11 specific part types in total, all based on the company’s Embedded Video Engine (EVE) platform - which provides display, audio and touch.

FTDI Introduces Multi-Chip Solution for Developing USB-to-RS232 Systems

USB solutions specialist FTDI Chip, through its highly acclaimed X-Chip series, has now added to its portfolio of semiconductor solutions for USB-to RS232 interfacing. FTDI Chip’s USB-DUO offering bundles together one of the company’s new high performance USB bridge controller ICs with its RS232 transceiver IC, in order to furnish engineers with a platform on which they can create their own USB-to-RS232 converter cabling systems - supporting speeds of up to 250 kbits/s. The company’s FT231XS provides the USB-to-UART conversion operation while the FT3243S transceiver provides the digital-toRS232 conversion, translating the 3.3 V level UART signal from the FT231XS to RS232 voltage levels.

FTDI Chip Strengthens its Position in the Japanese Market through Arrow’s Chip One Stop Operations

FTDI Chip, has expanded its distribution agreement with Arrow Electronics, Inc. in order to gain greater supply chain traction in Japan. The Arrow company, Chip One Stop, will henceforth supply FTDI’s complete portfolio of USB interface products, plus its new EVE graphic controller products, to design engineers and purchasers in the region.

FTDI Chip are delighted to announce the second USB Host IC to their portfolio of Android Support. The FT312D is a full speed (12 Mbit/s), USB host to UART bridge IC, specifically designed to bridge the USB port to a UART interface via the Android Open Accessory protocol.

FTDI Chip has strengthened its portfolio of X- Chip series devices by adding the FT234XD; a 12 pin DFN, USB to UART integrated circuit. The DFN package is 3mm x 3mm with RXD, TXD RTS and CTS signaling.

FTDI Chip has expanded its portfolio of USB Android solutions with the release of the J2XX Java driver for USB peripheral implementations.

By utilising the J2XX driver and compiling it with the user’s application, the driver is automatically loaded onto the Android platform without any need for user intervention. The combination of this driver structure and FTDI’s world-class USB bridge chips provides system designers a quick and easy methodology to create a USB link between Android platforms and their end products.

FTDI Chip Introduces New USB Controller Series, Optimising Designers' Implementation Choices – FT12

FTDI Chip is announcing the FT12 series of high performance USB controller IC’s. Operating at 12 Mbits/s and designed to the USB 2.0 specification, the new controllers support direct memory access (DMA) operation, while providing system interfaces for 8-bit parallel bus and SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) Slave. The FT12 series is configurable as a standard device class, and as such there is no need to add USB drivers.

Composed of three members, and inspired by the industry standard D12, the FT12 series offers unique features, like battery charging detection, numerous interface options and optimised device footprints - allowing the designer to choose the best-fit chip.

FTDI Chip announces USB Support for Raspberry Pi

FTDI Chip is announcing two products that connect to the Raspberry Pi (RPi) development system. The first, TTL-232R-RPi, is a USB-to-TTL Serial UART debug cable that enables a PC to connect the RPi header for improved debug capability.  The second product, RPI-HUB-MODULE,  is designed to connect to an RPi unit and expand the number of interfaces that can be accessed downstream from a host.

FTDI Chip Unveils USB-to-RS232 Cabling Solution

FTDI Chip has expanded its portfolio of converter cabling solutions with the introduction of Chipi-X. Measuring a length of 10 cm, this is a USB-to-RS232 level full-handshake UART cable with a male DB9 connector. The DB9 provides the connectivity for RS232 communications and a USB-A plug deals with USB communications.

FTDI Chip adds Ethernet-to-USB, MP3 audio codec & real-time clock functionality to Vinco platform  

Furthering market progression of the widely praised Vinco platform, FTDI Chip is delighted to announce the introduction of its new multi-function application board (shield). By combining the Vinco development platform, with targeted application support, such as MP3 audio codec, Ethernet-to-USB bridge and real-time clock (RTC), engineers can jump-start their development.

This latest shield offering incorporates a VLSI VS1053b codec for the decoding of various audio files (Ogg Vorbis, MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, WAV and MIDI), Ethernet connectivity, plus an RTC feature using NXP Semiconductors’ PCF32123 timing device.

FTDI adds advanced user interface mechanism to Arduino-inspired Vinco platform

Dave Sroka, Global Product Director at FTDI Chip commented, “The new Touch Key shield demonstrates the Vinco platform’s ability to utilise the Android Open Accessory initiative, so that devices using the Android operating system, such as tablet PCs, can control items of external hardware through a human machine interface (HMI), over USB.”

FTDI Chip expands Vinculum – II Precompiled Firmware and Source Code Offering

FTDI Chip has new additions to the portfolio of application – led ROM files

These files can be loaded directly into a VNC2 IC and utilised by its 16-bit microcontroller core in order to perform basic data transfer operations between common interfaces. Interface options include SPI, UART, USB host and USB device, with data operations such as mass storage, human interface devices, and communication device class.
